sevDesk

A legacy tech stack modernised for sustainable scale

sevDesk, a leading German cloud accounting and tax software provider for small and mid sized businesses, was growing fast but running into technological scaling limits. We modernised the legacy stack and built the organisational structure for product led development.

The challenge

sevDesk was working with a grown legacy tech stack that limited scalability, slowed development cycles, increased technical debt and made it harder to prioritise customer relevant features. As growth continued, the existing stack was no longer a sustainable base for further scale up.

What we did

colayer staffed a project lead and four full stack developers and established a structured product discovery process across three teams. In parallel, we built a modern production environment, migrated the first features onto a new tech stack, and put organisational structures and clear prioritisation mechanisms in place for customer oriented product development.

The outcome

A technological foundation for independent scaling, the first successful migration onto a modern tech stack, reduced technical debt, clearer product prioritisation and stronger customer orientation. Internal teams can now carry out future migrations on their own.

A discovery gives you a target architecture, a costed and sequenced plan, and a recommendation you can defend to your board. If the answer is that you should not run the programme, you will get that answer too.
